Pharmaceutical biotechnological research includes the application of recombinant DNA technology, microbiology, genomics, proteomics and industrial biotechnology. Pharmacogenomics analyses how the genetic makeup of an individual affects his/her response to drugs. The acquired and inherited genetic variation on drug response in patients by correlating gene expression or single-nucleotide polymorphisms with pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics can be studied.
